Martial Arts
Matt Hulan

Matt Hulan is a member of the Society of Liechtenauer. It is a club in the Roanoke valley, dedicated to the study of historical European martial arts. We are interested in how medieval Europeans trained to fight, and to this end, we study historical manuscripts and modern interpretations of these manuscripts. The name “Society of Liechtenauer” is a historical reference to a group of roughly eighteen German fighting masters in the early fifteenth century who appear to have gone by this name. However, our members are not limited to studying the styles of any one master or weapon. We are interested in expanding and sharing our knowledge of all European martial arts.
