Charles Matheny
It might be a cliché to say that Charles Matheny has done more than most people have done in their entire lifetimes, but it is also a pretty accurate description. He served in the navy for the first part of his career on the air craft carrier the Carl Vincent, working on communication systems before, during, and after 9/11. Wanting to take a more active part, he joined the army and served as a tank gunner and crew chief in Iraq. After fifteen years serving his country, an injury during training made him no longer fit for duty.
He’s also a veteran gamer, and has been playing role-playing games since he was 6 years old,, and running games since he was 12. He’s played in games run by Gary Gygax, Tracy Hickman, Ed Greenwood, and remembers when Elf was a class. Currently Charles is working on a role playing game system of his own design, writing a novel, and creating a tactical combat space game based on the novel. He is also pursuing degrees in engineering and physics, and enjoys applying real scientific principles to science fiction and game mechanics. Over the course of his life growing up and as part of his military service, he’s lived in sixteen states, seventy-two different locations and has visited every continent except for Antarctica (because somebody told him it’s really really cold there). He currently lives in Charleston, West Virginia with the fantastic artist Emily Mottesheard (his fiance), 6 rabbits, a turtle, and one rambunctious little kitten.
